Premenstrual spotting

04/15/2008

Question:

Not every month, but occasionally, I will have light premenstrual spotting about a week before my period. Is this a sign of something serious like cancer? It hasn`t happened in about 5 months but is happening this month. I do have a uterine fibroid also. Thanks.

Answer:

There are many causes for premenstrual bleeding. Most of them are benign like a uterine polyp or the fact that your body is very sensitive to the drop in estrogen right before your cycles. If this persists, you should be evaluated to determine the cause.
