Distal biceps tendonitis05/09/2008 |
What treatment should be used for distal bicep tendonitis in a throwing athlete?
This can be a difficult condition, especially in a throwing athlete. Most tendonitis type injuries are overuse in nature, so the first remedy is to decrease the workload on the elbow/shoulder complex. Pain and inflammation can be treated through a number of medications and/or modalities prescribed by your physician. Once the tendonitis has improved and the athlete is ready to resume activity, it is important that a gradual return throwing program is implemented. Proper warm up and stretching before throwing, as well as proper cool down, stretching, and ice after throwing are important components.
