Pelvic ultrasound05/27/2008 |
Can a pelvic ultrasound be wrong? I have been having problems with my menstrual cycle and my gyni sent me for testing but said everything came back fine.
Any test can have false findings, but it depends on what you are looking for as to whether or not a test can have a false reading. There are many causes for "problems" with the menstrual cycles. Some can be found by ultrasound like uterine fibroids, etc. Other causes like abnormal hormones, anovulation, etc., are not seen on an ultrasound. So, although an ultrasound can miss things, in this case it probably didn't. In fact the test isn't wrong, it noticed that your bleeding wasn't from an anatomic cause.
