Would Humira Work Longer Than Enbrel?

06/05/2008

Question:

My doctor has just switched my from Enbrel to Humira. He told me that Humira was a bit stronger medication then Enbrel. Enbrel stoped working for me after a year of taking it but my doctor said when I started taking Enbrel that it would work for about two years. Since Enbrel only lasted for a year, can I expect Humira to last longer than that?

Answer:

It's hard to predict how long a medication is going to work. Although both medications work against tumor necrosis factor, they do so through different mechanisms, so Humira may work for longer period of time than Enbrel.
