Please give an answer if glucerna shakes or snakes are safe for type 2 diabetes people or you recommend stay away from them? Thanks

Answer:

Sounds like you are looking for something fast, easy and nutritional that will not play havoc with your blood glucose.

Glucerna is produced by Novartis nutritional division. They make several products for those living with diabetes. There are shakes, cereals and snack bars.

Glucerna comes in a regular shake for people with diabetes as well as the Boost Glucose Control which contains a balance of protein, fat and a slow-digesting carbohydrate. It is known to help manage your blood glucose levels as well as being a very good source of protein. The shake also contains Benefiber fiber that aids in maintaining good digestive health. They are also Lactose free. The shakes contain 16 grams of carbohydrates as well as 16 grams of protein. Boost shakes come in several different flavors. I would recommend drinking them cold.

Glucerna cereal is also a good source of fiber. It contains 36 gm carbohydrates per one cup serving with 6 grams of fiber. Therefore, the adjusted carb. content is 30 grams of carbs per serving. Remember, the higher the fiber content, the slower the digestion of the carbs through the digestive tract which slows the appearance of glucose in your system. This assists the body in achieving more normal blood glucose readings. Keep in mind that 30 grams of carbs. are not enough for a complete meal. You could add ¼ to ½ banana depending on the size of the banana.

The snack bars come in different flavors and are a good source of carbs when out and about.

Some people use the regular shake or cereal as their breakfast and the Boost for an in between meal snack when needed. Just make sure again that you are having the proper amount of carbohydrates at each meal as set by your certified diabetic educator.
