Urinary Tract Cancers

High grade bladder tumor

06/10/2008

Question:

Doctor, I recently had a tumor removed from my bladder. The pathology report indicated that the tumor was high grade in nature but the muscle fragments that were taken with it showed no signs of cancer. The urologist said "don`t worry, no big deal." Is this correct? Is the prognosis good enough to make such a statement?

Answer:

One can not be certain of outcome, but, in general, with careful surveillance (repeat examination in 3 months for one year, possible CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis to assess adjacent organs and regional lymph nodes), the disease can be treated effectively. Please continue to work with your urologist to maintain this close watch.
