06/05/2008

Question:

my husband has dementia and needs help to get to the bathroom we have noticed that after he walks for a while his feet turn blue ,he has had a podiatrist check him for circulation problems and his own doctor says its Ok but his caretaker is worried that that may not be true. When he gets his feet up they return to normal. What c ould the cause be for this?

Answer:

Hello. This is likely just venous congestion which is harmless. Elevation or putting the feet up will help the swelling and color go away. If swelling is a bother, light support stockings will help.
