Spine and Back Health

Shot in the back

07/09/2008

Question:

I have a friend that was shot in the back. He said his nerves were in shock. He can`t walk, but has a lot of pain in the leg. He can`t move. Why would that be? And is there any way that he would be able to walk again?

Answer:

Hello, thank you for your question. Your friend most likely had damage to his/her spinal cord, or nerves, in his/her spine when shot. This would cause them to be unable to move. I can't tell you whether they will be able to walk again or not. I would have to examine them and see their x-rays.
