Post prandial left lateral abdominal pain
Hello, I have no risk factors for pancreatitis (don`t drink alcohol, excellent diet) but have been experiencing boring discomfort under the left lateral ribs for several weeks. Worse about an hour after eating, especially fats. Usually better exercising. Worse sitting, better stretching or supine. Bowel function unchanged (daily BM). I have lost a little weight because eating hurts, but appetite seems strong.
Thank you for using Netwellness. The list of causes of postprandial L sided pain is extensive and can include everything from peptic ulcer disease to gallbladder dysfunction to pancreatitis. In the workup, I would definitely start with a detailed history and physical to identify other possible etiologies of the pain, this combined with a few serum and imaging studies should narrow down the possible etiologies.
A couple of basic questions.....
- have you ever been jaundice
- previous cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal)
- any history of kidney stones
- any recent trauma or falls
- any nausea or vomiting
I hope this helps. Please feel free to contact my office for further evaluation or to set up an appointment (513 584 2322). Thank you.
