High iron with low hemoglobin counts06/30/2008 |
Our 16 year old daughter, who is very active with cross country and track has been told that she has a high iron count with a low hemoglobin count. Her pediatrician is going to have her see a pediatric hematologist. What are the possible causes and treatments of this situation? Many thanks for your prompt reply.
It is hard to know exactly what you mean by a high iron count and low hemoglobin. It could mean that they think she is anemic due to iron deficiency, but I am not sure what you or the doctor meant by "high iron count". Iron deficiency is relatively easy to treat, depending on the cause. I would encourage you to ask the physician what they meant and what they think may be going on.
