Is Sarcoidosis Associated With Abnormal Clotting?07/14/2008 |
My husband is suffering from Sarcoidosis in his lungs. He is getting ready to start the evaluation for a lung transplant. In the last 2-3 weeks he has developed blood clots in his lungs. He has had 2 bronchs and the doctor has cleaned out several clots. He also has a trach and there was one in it that was completely blocking the airway. He was just getting air around it. What is causing this?
Sarcoidosis is not typically associated with abnormal clotting of the blood. However, there are some reports of enlarged lymph nodes causing thrombosis (clotting) of blood, and some experts believe there may be a connection between abnormal blood clotting and sarcoidosis. However, the evidence is anecdotal. A search for other potential causes should be considered, such as genetic factors.
