Pain Management

Weight Loss and Leg Pain

07/23/2008

Question:

I started a walking program for weight loss but I get a tightening in my leg. My leg also gets real hard. The pain occurs between my knee and ankle on the outside part of my leg.

Answer:

There may be a number of causes for the pain. Narrowing in the spine or a herniated disc can be a cause of the pain. Muscle spasm may be causing the tightening and sometimes that is due to a narrow muscle compartment. There may be other causes. A good history and exam by your physician may help pinpoint the problem.
