Menopause

Is this normal?

08/04/2008

Question:

I am 50 years old, have never had an abnormal period nor missed one unless pregnant; I went for several weeks without one and now I`ve had one for a week, very heavy flow and passing big clots. I figure menopause, complete with hot flashes, but should I worry about the heavy bleeding and huge clots?

Answer:

It would be good to check with your clinician.  If your cycles have returned to normal, there may be nothing to worry about.  If your cycles are continuing to be heavy and long, it is important to be sure nothing else is the problem.
