Colon Cancer

Colon cancer

Question:

Perhaps I`m obsessing over this. There`s no need to answer if it`s a stupid question: I`m 50 and have no regular medical care...but recently have had had a "change in bowel habits". I got an FOBT test from the internet and have blood in my stool about twice a week. I broke and saw the local MD who did a digital exam and said it as negative. Then I came back in a month and it was positive. The symptoms are really bad (I can`t have a bowel movement most of the time). She suggests Metamucil. Any ideas? Thanks

Answer:

If you're 50 and have visible blood and FOBT positive, you should first have a colonsocopy to exclude any serious problem. If negative, then a fiber supplement such as Metamucil or Citrucel may be helpful.
