Postop colectomy abdominal abscess07/29/2008 |
One year ago I had a total colectomy with ileostomy. I have had an abdominal abscess drained twice in the past 4 months, associated with a foul smelling vaginal discharge. The abscess was located behind the vaginal wall, where my rectum was housed before removal. There is no sign of a fistula. The area keeps filling up and discharging through the vagina. What`s up with this? Thank you.
Sounds as if you have a small opening in your vagina that may be the source of continued contamination of the pelvic cavity. Ask your colorectal surgeon to examine you thoroughly for the source and to discuss possible ways to achieve healing.
