Dental Anesthesia

I had my first cavity filled in a week ago. I still have a feeling of numbess, though not as intense as was during the procedure, on that side of my chin and jaw area. Is this normal?

Thank you for your question. This is most common in the lower jaw where the nerve that is anesthetized can be contacted by the needle resulting in prolonged numbness. Normally, numbness lasts for a few hours after the procedure.

It sounds as if this will resolve in the next several days, but you should contact your dentist to see if he or she wants to evaluate you.
