Tongue

07/29/2008

Question:

ok my neice is 6 yrs old.On the back of her tounge she has what actually looks like another tounge growing. It is on the very back of her tounge. What could it be?

Answer:

This probably represents the epiglottis, a flap that covers the opening of the larynx (voice box) during swallowing. Her pediatrician should be able to confirm this.
