Lyme & burning mouth syndrome

08/06/2008

Question:

Have you ever heard of lyme disease being an underlying cause of burning mouth syndrome? It seems plausible, since it can cause a variety of neuropathies, but is there anything more detailed on this specific topic?

Answer:

Plausibility runs into trying to exclude a coincidental occurrence of Lyme and burning mouth in the same person. Unfortunately, there is not enough data at this time to help us decide.
