Lunate bone bruise

08/12/2008

Question:

I am 15 years of age and have been playing tennis for the last 3 years.Recently I devceloped a wrist pain which MRI revealed as a bone bruise of the lunate.I have pain only when trying to turn my wrist upwards.I have this condition now for 4 months.Apart from partial immobilization is there any other treatment of my condiotion? How long will it take before my injury is healed? Will I be able to paly tennis again? Thank you

Answer:

An MRI is a very sensitive test and would detect other conditions such as stress fracture or infection of the lunate.  Your condition likely represents an overuse injury and treatment consists of rest, splinting, NSAIDS and ice usually from 2-4 weeks.
