Causes of Hand Pain08/25/2008 |
I get severe pain in my right palm just below the 4th finger where the joint meets the palm. This pain comes without warning and sometimes wakes me from a sound sleep. It`s so severe that I have on occasion applied pressure/rubbed it or even bitten down on the area to try and get relief. Is this possibly neurological in nature. I`m a community nurse case manager and my work is not strenuous, so I doubt that it`s work related.
A number of factors could be the cause of pain, including nerve irritation (e.g. carpal tunnel or disc herniation) or rheumatologic condition. Seeing a hand specialist would be a good place to start.
