Skin Care and Diseases

Bullous pemphigoid

09/24/2008

Question:

Is there any specific diet or herbal supplements that can help cope with this condition? Can the blisters become cancerous? I have used oral steroids (Prednisone) and topical streroid (Triamcinolone Acetonide) but the condition persists and generally not worsening. Blisters on two toes: bleeding nose; mouth sores have been appearing for about a year.

Answer:

Oral herbal supplements have not been shown to be beneficial for bullous pemphigoid. There are no controlled studies that provide evidence on diet or herbal supplements and their effect on the disease. The blisters are not cancerous nor do they represent pre-cancers. This is an immunologic condition, not a malignant one.
