Ovarian cyst09/18/2008 |
I have a ovarian cyst on my right ovary about 16cm. Also a smaller one in my left. With prolong bleeding up to 17 days. Is a hesterectomy necessary? Can it be removed with out one. My doctor suggested one even though my tests for CA 125 was 19 and a uteral biopsy was normal.
A 16 cm ovarian cyst is never normal and needs to be removed. Whether or not the uterus needs to be removed depends on whether or not the cyst is malignant. A hysterectomy may be a treatment for your bleeding, but not absolutely necessary. The cause of the bleeding needs to be determined and all medical options considered. Either way, the ovary needs removal ASAP.
