Is thrush painful?09/15/2008 |
thrush: is it painful? my 3 month old granddaughter appears to have had it for 3 to 4 weeks should I be conserned?
"Thrush" is an oral infection caused by a yeast-like fungus known as Candida. Candida is normally present in the mouth but can become problematic if an increased number of yeast cells invade the lining of the mouth causing candidiasis or "thrush". It commonly appears as white patches which rub away easily leaving a raw, red surface. Candidiasis can be painful and is easily treated. Your granddaughter should be examined by her pediatrician.
