Is It Time for Bone Graft for Broken Scafoid?11/12/2008 |
My 20 year old son broke his scafoid last February, and had a screw put into it in March. It is 7 months later and it still has not fused. Is it time to have bone graft surgery, or do we wait longer? Can something else be done? Or should we do nothing? He has used a bone stimulator every day for two months.
If your son's orthopedist has determined that fusion has still not occurred, discuss with his surgeon whether waiting longer is likely to result in healing, as well as what other treatment options are available. You may also wish to seek a second opinion.
