Menopause

76 and still get nightly hot flashes

01/13/2009

Question:

I am 76 and still get nightly hot flashes (not night sweats) and on occasion I get hot flashes during the day. First I am hot and then I am chilled. It plays heck with my sleep. I am throwing off covers all night long. I get very tired and am sleepy all of the time because of the hot flashes. I have heard that some women have hot flashes all of their lives. There must be something that can be done.

Answer:

There are some options available other than hormones. I would discuss this with your primary physician.
