Vaginal dryness

11/19/2008

Question:

Please provide any recommendation to get relief from vaginal dryness. My Dr. said this is aging factor & prescribed hormonal cream. After I read side effects I decide do not use it. What to do.

Answer:

As a woman approaches and passes through menopause, estrogen levels decline. Estrogen is needed by the vagina to maintain moisture and normal pliability. Oral or topical estrogen can relieve the symptoms. You can use over-the-counter remedies that provide daily vaginal moisturization. You place a vaginal suppository daily or semi-daily to aid in moisturization. For intercourse, you can use a personal lubricant that is applied prior to intercourse to reduce friction from the lack of lubrication.
