Reoccuring low grade infection in jaw

11/19/2008

Question:

I had a root canal on a lower tooth done years ago. The dentist perforated the root -- result was a very bad localized infection. Now, 15 years later, I`m in the process of having an implant. The tooth is removed and the area is healing, but I`m have reoccuring infections in my lower jaw. I`ve been on two courses of antibiotics and I can feel the tenderness and swelling starting up again. I am very good about my dental care and am terrified that something is going on in my lower jaw. Can you recommend what I should do next. I love my dentist but I`m concerned about this infection.

Answer:

Discuss this with your local dentist and/or get a second opinion.
