Colorectal Diseases

Debilitating cramps for two minutes, then gon

01/12/2009

Question:

Every morning I get up early then within 10 minutes or so I get debilitating cramps. I can`t stand straight. After I have a bowel movement (which is not hard, just hard to pass) it goes away. I am not constipated. I have normal size and regularity. But these cramps bring me to tears. They are extremely painful. I have tried stool softeners and a colon cleanse program. Thank you for any help you could pass on.

Answer:

Sounds like you are having spasm of the smooth muscle of your intestinal wall. You may want to ask you gastroenterologist to consider dispensing a medication or fiber to treat this. Also, an exam to make sure there is no source of narrowing or inflammation may be reasonable.
