Dorsi flexion pain after equinas cast

01/12/2009

Question:

I have been in an equinas cast for 12 weeks. I am struggling to get my foot to a neutral position due to extreme pain across the top of my foot from one side of the ankle to the other - advice please

Answer:

Casting is the best way to stretch out your foot, but it may be beneficial to start physical therapy once the casting is done.  A PT can show you stretches to maintain the position you have gained with the casting and can do deep joint stretching.  If the right stretches do not take care of it, there are other ways PT can help with pain control.
