After TURP Surgery01/12/2009 |
How long should I pass blood after surgery? It has been 2 weeks and I still pass bright red blood everytime when I start to go. It is a small amount then clears up?
It is not uncommon to pass blood intermittently for several weeks after a TURP. Most patients do not realize the extent of prostatic shaving which is done during the procedure because there are no incisions on the outside. TURP is not a minor procedure. The good news is that it invariably clears up. If possible be sure not to take any blood thinners until you are happy that there is no more bleeding. This includes low dose aspirin.
