Kidney Pain After Passing a Stone01/07/2009 |
I passed a 3mm kidney stone 5 days ago and am still experiencing kidney pain. It is not unbearable and can be managed with advil. I was given a 3 day prescription of cipro to prevent an infection. Urine output is normal and it is clear. I have no abdominal pain-just the back pain and usually after I have been sleeping for about 5 hrs. Is this normal?
It is not uncommon to have some persistent back pain for a short period after passing a kidney stone. There can be edema at the ureteral oriface (where the ureter joins the bladder) after the stone has passed from the ureter into the bladder. If the symptoms persist, it is important to follow up with you doctor to be sure that there is no infection or persistent stone fragment.
