Prolapsed Uterus in a 2yr02/03/2009 |
I would like to know is it common for a 2 yr old to have a prolapsed uterus, and if so what can cause it. My little cousin was taking to the doctor the other day, because her mom found blood dripping from her vagina. The doctor said that she had a prolapsed uterus. Is that really possible for a 2yr old child?
It is probably a prolapsed urethra (the tube from the bladder to the outside). This condition typically occurs in African American girls between 2 and 8 years of age. They often have bloody spotting in the underwear and burning with urination. The cause is uncertain. Local measures usually are successful, but if not, then a minor surgical procedure can be perfomed to correct the problem.
