Myasthenia Gravis

Mestinon and doses.

Is there a maximum dose for how much Mestinon a patient must take per day? When a patient needs more and more Mestinon to keep symptom free, is it then because the body becomes “dependent “ or is it because the disease progress?

The dose of Mestinon can vary quite a bit from one patient to another. The maximum dose is determined by comparing the treatment benefits vs. side effects for an individual. When the patient's dosage requirements are increasing, I view this as worsening of the disease. Conversely, when the requirements are reduced, it is a measure of improvement in the underlying disease process. I hope this helps.
