03/02/2009

Question:

had multipul pulmonary embulis, congestive heart failure, after surgery. now am being told i have extensive emphysema and a cicatrical lesion that has grown 9 cm in a year. is the emph. a connected result of the branch blockage of the embulus that was left unattended for several monts?

Answer:

It is very unlikely that the emphysema is related to the pulmonary emboli. Emphysema is almost always caused by cigarette smoking.
