Digestive Disorders

Postprandial

05/07/2009

Question:

Would symptoms of peptic ulcer disease of the stomach be different from duodenal ulcers in terms of postprandial symptoms?

Answer:

Some feel duodenal symptoms, mainly pain, increase with fasting and decrease with eating and pain can awaken you from sleep, whereas gastric pain may increase with eating and it is rare to have sleep awakenings. Having said that, there is usually a lot of overlap and it is not typically so cut and dry.
