Insulin and Dosage03/16/2009 |
I am newly diagnosed person with diabetes. I was curious how you can change the amount of insulin you have to take based on your blood glocouse reading? Can you explain how I can do that?
On the one hand, there are some fairly simple rules for doing this; on the other hand, they need to be adjusted for each individual and the individual's understanding of how to apply them need to be assessed to assure that this is done safely and that refinements are made for safety and effectiveness. These are best accomplished in the context of a relationship with a health care team- a primary healthcare provider, perhaps in conjunction with certified diabetes educators or an endocrinologist. There are some teaching materials about insulin adjustment available from several organizations - see links.
