Pulled hamstring

04/23/2009

Question:

I have had a pulled hamstring for two weeks and I have been doing the RICE treatment. Ice helps while it is on my leg. What other treatments are there for a pulled hamstring? Does a pulled muscle normaly take along time to heal?

Answer:

Thanks for your question and for using NetWellness. There are 3 different grades of muscle strains (pulls), so it is really hard to say how long the pain will last, not knowing what the severity of your injury is.

In addition, hamstrings are a very dynamic muscle group, and they take a while to get better. If you are still having pain in a week, I would go to a sports medicine physician. You might benefit from some exercises to make the muscle group stronger.
