Dental and Oral Health (Adults)
Someone told me you should scrape off candida on the tongue which is painful. Someone else said that will just spread the problem. What do you think?
The first step would be to make sure that the reason for your painful tongue is due to candidiasis. Many times a coated tongue is mistakenly diagnosed as candidal infection. Furthermore, burning mouth syndrome is a common sensory neuropathy (annoying, but otherwise harmless) that can often cause a burning sensation that mimics candidal infection.
Without doing an examination, it would be impossible to say what your problem is. Regardless, if you have a documented (by fungal culture) candidal infection, it will really only be cured by antifungal medication.
For more information about coated tongue, burning mouth syndrome and candidiasis, you might want to visit the website www.aaomp.org and click on the "Public" tab, then click on the "Information about Oral Conditions" tab. Evaluation by an oral pathologist may be appropriate in your situation.
