Borderline Personality Disorder

05/26/2009

Question:

Treatment was mentioned in your articles as not being very successful. Where are the hospitals/doctors who are treating bpd? Who is the Expert in the field?

Answer:

Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) can be helpful to those with Borderline Personality Disorder. A major issue is proper diagnosis. Many patients, thought to be Borderline may actually have another disorder(s) such as bipolar disorder, substance abuse, temporal lobe epilepsy, etc. The cornerstone of treatment is a careful and complete evaluation.  Any of our psychiatrists, psychologists or social workers should be able to provide this.
