Dilantin`s impact on blood cell counts06/05/2009 |
I`ve been taking Dilantin since October of 2008 following two grand mal seizures. I take 530 mg a day. I know that Dilantin can lower the white blood cell count, which has happened to me. However, my red blood cell count is also low as is my platelet count. I`m now taking iron for the red blood cell count. Can Dilantin impact the red blood cell or platelet as well?
It is very unusual for Dilantin to affect RBC and platelets. I suggest you make sure your physician has carefully evaluated all possible causes of low RBC and platelets.
