Hydronephrosis Grade 207/08/2009 |
3 months old my son has mild hudronephrosis (grade 2). His ultrasound shows right kidney: 59mm, pelvis width 17 mm, volume 2ml, Parenchyma: 3-7mm, left kidney 58 mm and normal. His doctor prescribed antibiotic for 2 months. Last 2 months already given. I am frightened about this long time antibiotic treatment. Please give me your valuable advise.
It sounds like the hydronephrosis is non-obstructive. The purpose of antibiotic prophylaxis is to reduce the risk of getting a kidney infection. Whether it is useful in preventing urinary infection in boys with grade 2 hydronephrosis is unproven. I would discuss your concerns with the physician who wrote the prescription for the antibiotic.
