Small Urinary Bladder07/27/2009 |
An ultrasound at 16 weeks, no fetal urinary bladder was seen. They had me come back the next day and a small urinary bladder was seen, but this emptied quickly. The kidneys were not seen, but prominent adrenals. They said the amniotic fluid around the baby was normal. Should I be worried? When should we do the next ultrasound?
This is a difficult question to answer. The key is that the amniotic fluid is normal and that the bladder was visualized. I would get a follow-up ultrasound in 4 to 6 weeks. If the bladder is visualized and the kidneys are normal, then everything should be normal for the baby from the standpoint of the urinary tract.
