I`m a 60 year young male. Just got the tests back from the doctor and everything looks GREAT, except the BUN and BUN/Crea.Ratio. BUN of 24 and Ratio of 26 (my doctor tells me a normal BUN range is 7-25). I`ve done a little reading and wonder if the fact that I`d fasted for just over 16 hours before the test may have thrown this test off a bit? Any thought and/or comments would be appreciated.
Yes, that is the most likely explanation (the normal values of BUN are designed to be used for normal people living normally, not fasting for 16 hours!). In addition, if your diet is high in protein, this could contribute to a slightly higher BUN. It sounds like you have nothing to worry about here!
