Ear, Nose, and Throat Disorders

Microlaryngoscopy

10/14/2009

Question:

After the microlaryngoscopy and biopsy, the doctor asked me not to speak for 2 weeks but i couldnt becuase i am a mother and i have 3 kids. my voice didn`t go back as it should be and my voice still complains of hoarness so what should i do? and will my voice return as it was before? thanks

Answer:

I think this is a question better asked of your doctor.  I do not know the indication for the surgery.  I will say that you should have shared with your doctor that 2 weeks of voice rest is unrealistic given the three children.  He might have considered a different surgery or a different treatment altogether.

I am hopeful that in time your voice will recover and if it doesn't, maybe revision surgery can be considered when your children are older and voice rest is more realistic.

Good luck.
