What is a uterus infection?
A uterine infection can occur after delivery of a baby. The lining of the uterus is a raw surface that can become overwhelmed by the bacteria present and become infected. This is usually associated with a fever, discharge and uterine tenderness worse than can be expected from delivery alone. In the not recently pregnant woman, the uterus can become infected by a sexually transmitted infection and spread from the cervix, to the uterus and finally to the pelvis causing a pelvic inflammation. Both of these need further treatment with antibiotics.
