Tumors on the Kidney in a Pregnant Woman11/18/2009 |
My niece, age 24 and 16 wks pregnant was recent seen for low back pain. An ultrasound was done to rule out kidney stones and a mass was seen. She also has a Strep B pyelonephritis. An MRI was done and a 4 cm mass was seen. She is presently on antibiotics and further urine tests have been done to determine continued antibiotic therapy and IV versus oral therapy. The urologist is now consulting with her ob/gyn MD. How would you suggest her treatment proceed? What are the concerns for the baby?
I would have to defer to the ob gyn doc. Normally would do biopsy but that is more radiation from the ct scan. There should be NO concerns for the baby. Need to determine if the mass is an abscess or solid mass. Not a very complete answer I know but need more info from the ob on this one.
