Knee pain

12/08/2009

Question:

I was getting up from my couch and the back of my left knee popped and it is very sore is that normal or is it something serious?

Answer:

Joint "popping" in the absence of pain or swelling may not be any cause for concern, but since you mentioned your knee is also very sore, if your knee pain persists - and particularly if you have any knee swelling, locking, or giving-way (buckling) symptoms -consider being evaluated by your physician. Once the cause for your symptoms is identified, then the "seriousness" of your condition can be determined.
