Can I Be a Kidney Donor with Graves' Disease?01/05/2010 |
I am a 29 yr old female with Graves' Disease. I take Methemizole and Atenolol. I also have a family history of diabetes and was diagnosed with gestational diabetes about 6 yrs ago. Would I be disqualified from being a living kidney donor? Any help on this would be appreciated. Thank you!!
The thyroid condition is not in itself a contraindication to live donation. High blood pressure is a relative contraindication and transplant centers have varying opinions about whether patients with MILD hypertension. As part of your evaluation, the center may opt to obtain 24 hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring to get a better handle on your AVERAGE blood pressure.
