Injection Novocain I Felt an Electrical Zap?
What was the electrical zap I felt when my dentist injected the Novocain? The cavity was filled in my lower jaw. She said it got close to the nerve. I still feel a tingly feeling in my lower lip?
When the dentist places the local anesthetic for the lower jaw, he or she tried to get in the area of a specific nerve. If the dentist does this just perfectly, the needle can brush by the nerve causing the electrical shock you felt. Most of the time, the nerve remains numb for a day or two but it can be longer.
If the tingling is still present several days after the injection, you should contact your dentist to let him or her know that you are still experiencing some numbness. In the vast majority of cases, there are no long lasting symptoms.
