Bleeding and Clotting Disorders

Unexplained Bruising 03/08/2010

Question:

My 13 year old daughter woke up monday morning and we discovered bruising on both sides of her neck and above her right breast.

She has no recollection of injury and there were no marks of any kind there the night before.

The doctor ran a CBC, PT/INR and a smear test. All were normal.

What could another cause of the bruising be?

Answer:

It is hard to make any real suggestion as to what it might be in a forum such as this. With a normal platelet count and clotting studies, it is less likely a bleeding disorder, and I would wonder if the bruise are from something else and not a bleeding problem. 

If your daughter has any other symptoms or doesn’t improve, I would have her again seen by her physician to be evaluated again.
